Back to School: Your Step-by-Step Guide for a Smooth Transition
Back-to-school season presents unique challenges for autistic individuals and their families, along with the education and therapy professionals that serve them. As summer comes to an end, ensuring the learner and their support team are well-prepared and equipped with tools for a smooth transition to a classroom environment can significantly reduce stress and worry for all involved. In this webinar, hosts Cara Soto, M.A., BCBA, LBA, and Ochanya McRoberts, M.Ed., will share insights on what to expect from the back-to-school transition and strategies ABA providers can use to successfully collaborate with families and educators during a short-staffed, high-stress year. Attendees will walk away from this webinar with an actionable Back-to-School Guide that includes: * An assessment plan - Identify the skills (ie. group learning commands, classroom etiquette, wearing a uniform) learners may need to learn (or re-learn) as they transition from the relaxed summer months into a classroom setting. * Support strategies for parents and caregivers – Discover ways to assist families in creating new (or restructuring existing) home routines to ease learner and family stress and sadness around heading back to school. * Classroom etiquette for practitioners – Learn best practices in rapport-building among school staff, establish clear classroom etiquette, and devise communication plans that facilitate a collaborative and respectful environment that puts the learner first. 1 BACB Learning CEU Cara Soto, M.A., BCBA, LBA, and Ochanya McRoberts, M.Ed., Disclaimer: This CentralReach Institute course is approved for continuing education or required training hours of the following types: Behavior Analyst Certification Board.
